High flow-rate EVO for nitrate
SRS®-NR
Large-droplet EVO with an anionic emulsifier, purpose-built for nitrate reduction in high-flow aquifers.
SRS®-NR is Terra Systems' EVO substrate purpose-built for nitrate reduction rather than chlorinated-solvent dechlorination. Native microorganisms use the carbon and hydrogen it supplies to reduce nitrate to the innocuous end product, nitrogen gas, over a release period of roughly 1 to 3 years.
A large, average 5 µm droplet and a proprietary anionic emulsifier make the substrate adhere to aquifer solids, which is what makes SRS®-NR suited to high groundwater flow rates (greater than roughly 180 feet per year), fractured rock formations and permeable reactive barriers, including nitrate-interception barriers near streams, rivers and estuaries. It has been used to reduce nitrate migration into Cape Cod estuaries from septic systems.
Benefits
- Formulated specifically for biological nitrate reduction to nitrogen gas
- Anionic emulsifier and large droplet adhere to the formation in high-flow and fractured-rock aquifers
- Releases bio-available hydrogen over roughly 1 to 3 years
- Used in permeable reactive barriers to intercept nitrate before it reaches surface water
