Combined biotic and abiotic treatment
ZVI Solutions
Micro-scale zero-valent iron blended into substrate for combined abiotic and biotic treatment of chlorinated solvents and DNAPL.
Terra Systems' ZVI solutions combine emulsified vegetable oil (EVO) or quick-release carbon substrates with zero-valent iron (ZVI) to support both biotic and abiotic degradation pathways. ZVI is a strong reductant that reacts rapidly with chlorinated compounds, nitrate and oxidized metals such as hexavalent chromium; the hydrogen generated as it corrodes also serves as an electron donor that stimulates biological reductive dechlorination.
Two lines cover the pathway: SRS®-ZVI (EVO plus sulfidated micro-scale ZVI), QRS™-GLY-ZVI (quick-release glycerin plus ZVI), a NASA-licensed micelle-based technology that draws DNAPL into a reactive ZVI core.
At a glance
Dual pathway
Biological reduction from the carbon substrate and abiotic reduction from the ZVI, in one injected formulation.
Broadest EVO/ZVI line in the industry
Particle size and ZVI loading are both specified per site, from 4 µm to 125 µm particles.
DNAPL-targeted
EZVI’s hydrophobic oil layer draws chlorinated DNAPL into the reactive iron core.
