About Terra Systems
Terra Systems is a leader in environmental biotechnology, specializing in advanced in-situ bioremediation solutions, with deep R&D expertise, in-house manufacturing, and technical support from planning through post-treatment.
Company overview
Founded in 1992, Terra Systems pioneered the field with the first U.S. patent for using emulsified vegetable oil substrates, lactate and nutrients to remediate chlorinated solvents in groundwater (U.S. Patent 6,398,960). Terra Systems scientists have been advancing in-situ bioremediation technologies since the 1980s, building on a foundation established in the 1970s when Richard Raymond, Sr. received the first patent for in-situ bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbons, at the Sun Oil Company spill site in Ambler, Pennsylvania.
Today, under the leadership of President Richard Raymond, Jr., the company continues to develop anaerobic and aerobic remediation technologies, with a comprehensive portfolio that performs as a standalone treatment or as part of a custom technology train.
What we offer
Anaerobic solutions — quick-release and slow-release carbon substrates, ZVI formulations, and bioaugmentation cultures.
Aerobic solutions — calcium peroxide (CPO) and oxygen-delivery technologies.
Surfactant solutions — surfactant screening and selection, and surfactant-enhanced product recovery and ISCO.
Chemical oxidation solutions — sodium and potassium persulfate, and the TSI-FSA™ persulfate activator.
Research, manufacturing and support
Terra Systems operates a dedicated treatability laboratory and a quality control laboratory integrated directly into production at its Claymont, Delaware facility, which is supported by a full-time production staff. Because the company manufactures its own products, it can offer just-in-time production and delivery, minimizing on-site storage and allowing flexibility if injection schedules change.
The company has conducted more than 300 treatability studies. It was one of the founding members of the Sustainable Remediation Forum (SURF). Its patented SRS® family of emulsified vegetable oil substrates is certified under the USDA BioPreferred Program as a 98% biobased product.
