Sustained carbon delivery
SRS® Emulsified Vegetable Oil Substrates
Seven patented formulations of emulsified soybean oil substrate for long-term anaerobic treatment of chlorinated solvents, selected by droplet size, retention and co-contaminant.
SRS® substrates provide a long-lasting carbon source that creates reducing conditions and supports microbial degradation of chlorinated solvents. Soybean oil is emulsified into droplets small enough to travel with groundwater and sticky enough to stay where placed; once distributed, the oil ferments slowly to hydrogen and volatile fatty acids, driving the aquifer reducing and feeding reductive dechlorination for years. Every formulation also carries a quick-release substrate that covers the lag before the oil begins to ferment.
Because every batch is blended in Terra Systems' own Claymont plant, soybean oil content (45% to 90% across the line), droplet size, quick-release loading, nutrient package and Vitamin B12 are all design variables rather than fixed constraints. SRS® is certified under the USDA BioPreferred Program as a 98% biobased product and is covered by US Patent #RE40,448.
At a glance
Small or large droplet
Small droplets travel further for distribution; large droplets (SRS®-FR/FRL) extend retention in high-flow or fractured settings.
Metals co-treatment
SRS®-M adds a proprietary abiotic reductant to treat hexavalent chromium alongside chlorinated solvents.
Barrier-ready
SRS®-PRB blends in sulfidated micro-scale ZVI for permeable reactive barrier construction.
