Rhodococcus ruber
TSI-RR®
Aerobic Rhodococcus ruber culture for cometabolic degradation of 1,4-dioxane, MTBE and TBA.
TSI-RR® carries Rhodococcus ruber at greater than 1×10⁹ cells per milliliter for the aerobic cometabolic degradation of 1,4-dioxane. Unlike the rest of the TSI® line, this culture is aerobic: it requires a cometabolic substrate, such as propane or isobutane, and more than 1 mg/L of dissolved oxygen to biodegrade its target compounds, and so cannot be applied at the same time as reductive dechlorination of chlorinated solvents.
Because of that, TSI-RR® treatment is sequenced before reductive dechlorination, after it, or downgradient of a chlorinated-solvent plume. At sites without PCE, it may also be possible to cometabolically biodegrade 1,1,1-TCA, TCE, DCE and vinyl chloride under the same aerobic, propane-fed conditions.
Benefits
- Aerobic cometabolic pathway for complete degradation of 1,4-dioxane
- Also targets MTBE and TBA
- Requires a cometabolic substrate (propane or isobutane) and dissolved oxygen above 1 mg/L
- Sequenced before, after, or downgradient of chlorinated-solvent reductive dechlorination
