Calcium peroxide

TSI-CPO

Slow-release oxygen source for aerobic biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons and fuel oxygenates.

TSI-CPO is calcium peroxide (CaO₂), an oxygen-generating compound added to the vadose zone or groundwater to support aerobic biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons, fuel oxygenates and related compounds. In water, CaO₂ forms calcium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide, which then decomposes to oxygen and water, releasing oxygen slowly for up to 12 months from a single application.

TSI-CPO contains at least 16.6% active oxygen (75% calcium oxide, 25% calcium hydroxide by composition) and is suited to sites with low to moderate contamination. Because the calcium hydroxide fraction can raise pH as high as 12, dosing is sized to the site. Typical application rates are 2 to 6 pounds per cubic yard of soil; one pound of CaO₂ yields roughly 0.79 gallons (3 liters) of oxygen.

Benefits

  • Slow-release oxygen source, active for up to 12 months from a single application
  • Contains 16.6% or greater active oxygen
  • Can be injected as a slurry, built into a permeable reactive barrier, or mixed into soil after excavation
  • Suited to low to moderate levels of contamination
